Jayhawks Capture Two More Regional Wins

SANBORN - Making the quick trip up north, the Jamestown Community College volleyball team got the job done, picking up two wins at the Niagara County Community College POD Saturday afternoon.

 

The Jayhawks (11-7, 11-2 Region 3), who are winners of 11 of their last 12 matches, defeated SUNY Broome Community College in three sets handedly and battled to get the 3-0 sweep against Corning Community College.

In their match against the Hornets, the Jayhawks won in three sets with scores of 25-20, 25-16, and 25-17. Outside hitter Mikala Einink (Clymer, NY/Clymer Central) led the way with eight kills while outside hitter Emma McCarthy (Olean, NY/Allegany-Limestone Central) and middle hitter Rian Finch (Randolph, NY/Randolph HS) each chipped in with six kills. Setter Madison Johnson (Panama, NY/Panama Central) posted another 20-assist match, coming away with 28 assists. Middle Hitter Cadance Main (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) found the holes in the Hornets' defense, getting six service aces.

 

Libero Sydney Ulasewicz (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone Central) set the tone on defense with 14 digs. Johnson also played a key role on defense, getting 11 digs.

In their final match of the afternoon, the Jayhawks took down the frisky Red Barons in three sets with set scores of 25-17, 28-26, 25-19. McCarthy had a solid game on the offensive end, coming away with 17 kills with Einink chipping in with eight kills. Johnson orchestrated the offense, getting 35 assists. Right Side Claire Pumford (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) found her rhythm while serving, getting five service aces.

 

On the defensive end, Pumford and Einink each had 12 digs with Ulasewicz adding 11 digs.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Thursday, October 6th, as they host Lakeland Comunity College for the team's Dig Pink night starting at 6 p.m.
