Jayhawks Back On Track After Going 2-1 To Start Region 3 Action

JOHNSTOWN - Heading east for their first Region 3 action of the year, the Jamestown Community College volleyball team went 2-1 at the Fulton-Montgomery POD as the SallyAnne Rudny era is officially underway.

Going into their first Region 3 matchup of the season, the Jayhawks (2-6, 2-1 Region 3) fell in three sets to No. 14 Fulton-Montgomery Community College 25-14, 25-18, and 25-21.

 

Mikala Einink (Clymer, NY/Clymer Central) led the offensive attack with six kills while Claire Pumford (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) added five kills. Madison Johnson (Panama, NY/Panama Central) orchestrated the offense, leading the way with 14 assists. 

 

On the defensive side, Einink had a career-high 14 digs while Bri McEwen (Silver Creek, NY/Silver Creek Central) was a presence at the net, getting two blocks.

Looking to rebound in their second game of the day, the Jayhawks got their first win of the season over the Hawks in three sets going 25-12, 25-10, and 25-18.

 

Emma McCarthy (Olean, NY/Allegany-Limestone Central) took control of the game, leading the offense with 12 kills with Einink chipping in with seven kills. Johnson facilitated the offense, coming away with 27 assists and six aces.

 

On the defensive side of the ball, Sydney Ulasewicz (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone Central) had a game-high 10 digs with Pumford adding nine digs. The duo of Rian Finch (Randolph, NY/Randolph HS) and McEwen were solid at the net, each getting two blocks each.

In their final game of the day, the Jayhawks downed the Generals in four sets, 25-18, 25-22, 23-25, and 25-17.

 

JCC had a three-headed attack on offense with McCarthy getting a game-high 19 kills, Einink with 11 kills and Finch with 10 kills. Johnson had a strong outing in the game, getting 49 assists which is tied for most assists in a four set game. Johnson tied Maddy Russo's 49 assists against SUNY Broome Community College during the 2019 season. Einink and Ulasewicz saw success in her serves, collecting six aces each.

 

On the defensive side of the ball, Einink and Pumford had 10 digs with Ulasewicz adding eight digs. McEwen had a stellar game at the net, collecting four blocks. 

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action next Sunday, September 18th, as they travel north up the I-90 for the Erie Community College POD. JCC will face Niagara County Community College, SUNY Adirondack, and Hudson Valley Community College starting at 10 a.m.
