PERRYSBURG, Ohio - Making their annual trip out west for the Owens Invitational, the Jamestown Community College faced tough competition in three NJCAA Division II institutions and the No. 6 team in Division III.

 

Delta College 3 - Jamestown Community College 0

On Saturday, the Jayhawks (0-5) faced Delta College where they fell in three sets, 25-10, 25-16, and 25-18. Outside hitters Emma McCarthy (Olean, NY/Allegany-Limestone Central) and Claire Pumford (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) lead the offensive attack, getting seven kills each. Setter Madison Johnson (Panama, NY/Panama Central) facilitated the offense with 16 kills.

 

On the defensive side of the ball, libero Sydney Ulasewicz (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone Central) had a team-high 12 digs with Pumford adding 10 in the match.

 

Cuyahoga Community College 3 - Jamestown Community College 0

To finish out day one of the Owens Invitational, JCC was looking to rebound but fell to Cuyahoga Community College in three sets, 25-16, 25-17, and 25-18. Pumford led the offensive attack once again, finishing with eight kills while Johnson added another 16 digs.

 

On defense, freshman defensive specialist Mikala Einink (Clymer, NY/Clymer Central) posted a career-high 12 digs in her young career while Johnson chipped in with 10 digs.

Looking to rebound on day two of the Owens Invitational, the Jayhawks faced the host institution in Owens Community College. Facing the defending national champions, JCC fell in three sets, 25-9, 25-11, and 25-7.

 

Looking to find their offense, McCarthy had success with four kills with Johnson getting nine assists. On the defensive side, Johnson led the way with six digs with Pumford adding five.

 

Terra State 3 - Jamestown Community College 0

Looking to close out the weekend strong, JCC looked to have gotten things trending up but ultimately fell in three sets to Terra State by set scores of 25-20, 25-13, and 25-12. The offensive attack was once again led by Pumford with six kills while Johnson added 13 more assists to the weekend.

 

Ulasewicz added 12 more assists to her weekend with Pumford aslo chipping in with 10 digs. Freshman outside hitter Cadance Main (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) made her presence felt at the net with three total blocks (2 solo, 1 assist).

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Saturday, September 10th, as they begin Region 3 play at the Fulton-Montgomery Pod. At the pod, JCC will face Herkimer College, Mohawk Valley Community College, and host Fulton-Montgomery Community College.
