Jayhawks Drop Season Opener At Lakeland CC

KIRTLAND, Ohio – In their season opener on the road, the Jamestown Community College volleyball team fell to Lakeland Community College in four sets, 3-1 Tuesday evening.

 

The Jayhawks (0-1) fell in the first set, 25-14, battled back to win the second set, 25-18, got edged out in the third set, 27-25, and fell in the final set, 25-19.

 

JCC had a two-headed attack at the net with freshman outside hitter Cadance Main (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) leading the team with 14 kills while sophomore outside hitter Emma McCarthy (Olean, NY/Allegany-Limestone Central) added 13 kills on the night. The offense was facilitated by sophomore setter Madison Johnson (Panama, NY/Panama Central) who had 34 assists.

 

On the defensive side of the ball, sophomore outside hitter Claire Pumford (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) led the way with 26 digs while freshman libero Sydney Ulasewicz (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone Central) was close behind with 24 digs. Freshman middle hitter Madison Ring (Sinclairville, NY/Cassadaga Valley HS) made her presence felt at the net, coming away with seven total blocks (3 solo, 4 assists).

 

The Jayhawks will be on a 10-day hiatus as they prepare to head west for the Owens Invitational on Saturday, September 3rd, and Sunday, September 4th. JCC will play Delta College at 11:30 a.m. and Kalamazoo Valley CC at 4 p.m. on that Saturday before playing No. 1 Owens CC at 10 a.m. and No. 6 Terra State at 11:30 a.m. on that Sunday.
