Miranda Gross is a freshman for Jayhawk women's volleyball at JCC. She was on the volleyball and track and field teams in high school at Randolph. Part-time Dean's List, Honor Roll, and National Honor Society were among her academic achievements. Additionally she was a 1st Team All Star for volleyball as well as 2nd Team All WNY and 4th Team All NY State. Her team took second place at States. She was a team captain for both her school and club teams. The Penn State women's volleyball team is her favorite. Gross' major is in Individual Studies with plans after graduation to transfer to Fredonia and study Speech Language Pathology.
Spot Light Athlete for the Week of October 24th
Miranda Gross, a freshman, who graduated from Randolph Central School District, decided to play volleyball for the Jayhawks because she said "it was close to home for me so the commute wouldn't be bad." She then talked about how coach Ashley Lund contacted her about playing for the JCC volleyball team and convinced her to become a Jayhawk.
Since Miranda doesn't spend all of her time playing volleyball she said that she enjoys hanging out with her friends on campus and working in the bookstore that is also located on campus. When she was asked about what she enjoyed the most about being on the JCC volleyball team she said, "All the support that my team shows to not just me but to everybody! I also really enjoying meeting all of the other player's from the different teams."
Her highlight of the season was making friends with all of the players on the team and becoming a closer team in general. Miranda would like to further her career in Volleyball after she graduates from JCC. She wants to transfer to Fredonia State and try out for the volleyball team there. She has always wanted to attend Fredonia State, so she said "I might as well try out for the volleyball team too while I'm there."
Finally, when asked if she had any advice for aspiring athletes she was modest when saying "To keep pushing yourself so that you get better day by day." She also mentioned "Not to ever give up on following your dreams even if they don't seem achievable at the moment. One day if you keep working hard they will be achievable."
