Late Inning Rally Falls Short In Game Two Against Butler County CC

BUTLER, Pa. - Starting the first of a three game road series, the Jamestown Community College softball team dropped a pair of games to Butler County Community College Sunday afternoon.

 

The Jayhawks (0-10) fell in game one by a score of 17-2 and in game two, they rallied late but would fall by a score of 9-6.

 

Game 1: Butler County Community College 17 - Jamestown Community College 2

JCC was led offensively by centerfielder Angelique Palacio (Tucson, AZ/Desert View HS) and third base Jena Vacanti (Brocton, NY/Brocton HS) with two hits each. The pair each hit a double with first base Savanna Krystofiak (Brocton, NY/Brocton HS) also hitting a double.

 

The Jayhawks scored their runs in the third with Palacio hitting a double with two out. Krystofiak drove in Palacio with her double to get JCC on the board. Krystofiak scored the final run of the inning thanks to a single from catcher Sydney Dahl (South Dayton, NY/Pine Valley HS).

 

Pitcher Desiree Nelson (Window Rock, AZ/Window Rock HS) went the distance on the rubber, surrendering eight earned runs on seven hits.

 

Game 2: Butler County Community College 9 - Jamestown Community College 6

In the second game, Krystofiak went two-for-three from the plate with a double and triple while also driving in a pair of runs. Of the seven hits for the Jayhawks, six came by virtue of extra-base hits.

 

JCC got on the board in the top of the first as Krystofiak hit a one run triple to bring in Palacio. Dahlt hit a groundout to first base that scored Krystofiak. The Pioneers responded by scoring one run to make it 2-1 after one inning of action.

 

Butler County added six runs in the second and one more in the fourth to take an 8-1 lead.

 

The Jayhawks got across a pair of runs in the sixth as right fielder Tarryn Meyer (Fourways Garden, Johannesburg, South Africa/Crawford Lonehill) hit a grounder to second which allowed Vacanti and Nelson to come home. BC3 responded by scoring a run in the sixth as well.

 

Needing to get the offense going to keep the game going, Palacio roped one the third base line to bring in shortstop Emma Lindsey (Ripley, NY/Chautauqua Lake Central) from second base from her double to leadoff the inning. Krystofiak hits a double out to right field to bring in Palacio to make it 9-6.

 

Nelson went the distance in the circle, surrendering seven earned runs on nine hits.

 

The Jayhawks will be in the midst of their three game road trip as they travel to take on SUNY Broome Community College this Tuesday, April 18th, at the Binghamton University Softball Complex starting at 3 p.m.
