Jayhawks Rally To Complete Sweep Of The Cougars

JAMESTOWN – Playing in their only home games of the season due to a very wet spring, the Jamestown Community College softball team came away with a pair of wins over Genesee Community College Sunday afternoon.

 

Game 1: Jamestown Community College 7 – Genesee Community College 4

The Jayhawks (5-16, 3-5 WNYAC) found themselves down 3-2 after one innings of play as shortstop Emily Horth (Little Valley, NY/Cattaraugus-Little Valley HS) hit an RBI double to score third base Rebecca Ulinger (East Otto, NY/Cattaraugus-Little Valley HS).

 

GCC added one more run in the second but a three-run inning in the second put JCC back on top. The Jayhawks added two more insurance runs in the fourth and sixth innings to secure the game

 

Samantha Heppel (Angola, NY/Lakeshore Sr. HS) went 3-for-4 on the day with Horth going 2-for-3 with both hits going for triples. Catcher Heather Johnston (Brocton, NY/Brocton Central) should off her base running skills, stealing three bases.

 

Heppel went the distance in the circle, givng up four runs, two earned, and six hits while striking out 11 batters.

 

Game 2: Jamestown Community College 9 – Genesee Community College 8

The teams were tied after one inning of action at 3-3 with GCC scoring four more runs between the third and fourth innings.

 

The Jayhawks kept fighting, outscoring GCC 4-1 in the next two innings to make it an 8-7 ball game. The Jayhawks completed the rally in the seventh, scoring the tying and go-ahead run to get the win. Both runs scored came with JCC having two outs on the board. Heppel jump started the rally with a lead-off triple to set the tone.

 

Heppel went the distance once again, giving up eight runs on 10 hits while striking out five batters.

 

This concludes the season with their next scheduled games at SUNY Broome Community College on Tuesday, May 10th, being cancelled.
