CANANDAIGUA - In their first regional games of the season, the Jamestown Community College softball team dropped a pair of road games to Finger Lakes Community College Saturday afternoon.

Game 1: Finger Lakes Community College 6 - Jamestown Community College 5

Pitcher Samantha Heppel (Angola, NY/Lakeshore Sr. HS) had a strong bat for the Jayhawks (0-3), going a perfect 3-for-3 with two hits going or triples.

JCC scored a pair of runs in the first inning as shortstop Emily Horth (Little Valley, NY/Cattaraugus-Little Valley HS) came home as Heppel got her first triple of the day. Second base Jenna Hadley (Ellicottville, NY/Ellicottville Central) drove in Heppel as she grounded out to the pitcher.

The Jayhawks added two more runs in the third inning to extend the lead, 4-0. Heppel hit her second triple which scored left fielder Brooklyn McCosco (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg HS). Heppel would soon score once again as Hadley lined out to center field to get the run across.

The Lakers were able to cut into the lead in the third to make it 4-2 but JCC added another run in the top of the fifth inning with Horth scoring on a wild pitch to make it 5-2.

Finger Lakes tie the game up in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs to make it 5-5. The game went to extra innings with the Lakers getting the winning run across in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Heppel recorded the loss as she struck out seven batters and gave up 11 hits.

Game 2: Finger Lakes Community College 9 - Jamestown Community College 3

Third base Rebecca Ulinger (East Otto, NY/Cattaraugus-Little Valley HS) had a strong bat in the second game, going 2-for-2 at the plate which included a double.

The Jayhawks got out to a quick 2-0 lead with Hadley stealing home and right fielder Megan Stuve (Cattaraugus, NY/Ellicottville Central) hitting an RBI-single to left field to bring home Ulinger.

The Lakers came alive in the third and fourth innings, scoring a combined eight runs to take an 8-2 lead. JCC added one more run in the sixth with Ulinger doubling to center field and drove home Heppel.

Heppel was in the circle one again, this time striking out six batters and giving up six earned runs.
