Heppel And Ulinger Named to All-WNYAC Team

ROCHESTER – The last of the athletic awards for the 2021-22 academic year are finishing up with the Western New York Athletic Conference All-Conference teams for softball being named with two Jamestown Community College players making the list.

 

Pitcher/utility player Samantha Heppel (Angola, NY/Lakeshore Sr. HS) and infielder/pitcher Rebecca Ulinger (East Otto, NY/Cattaraugus-Little Valley HS) each representing the Jayhwks on the second team.

 

Samantha Heppel, Freshman Pitcher/Utility – Second Team All-WNYAC

Heppel was once again the go-to ace in the circle for the Jayhawks, making 11 starts where she pitched a total of 75.2 innings of action. Heppel finished fifth in the conference in strikeouts, racking up 70 on the season including a career-high 11 strikeout against Genesee Community College.

 

During her final five starts of the season, Heppel went a perfect 5-0 while ringing up 44 batters. Her performance in that span helped her earn NJCAA Region 3 Player of the Week honors.

 

Heppel was also a force at the plate, leading the team in hits (24), triples (3), batting average (.522), on-base percentage (585), and slugging percentage (.674).

 

Rebecca Ulinger, Freshman Infielder/Pitcher – Second Team All-WNYAC

Ulinger helped the Jayhawks’ offense in a big way, rankning second on the team in batting average (.396) while finishing third in in hits (19), on-base percentage (.453), and slugging percentage (.563). Ulinger also led the way in home runs with two on the year.
