Jayhawks Show Dominance Against Tri-C

JAMESTOWN - Staying hot to start the second half of the season, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team took care of business Monday evening by defeating Cuyahoga Community College by a score of 69-45.

 

The Jayhawks (9-7) were led by freshman guard Angelique Palacio (Tucson, AZ/Desert View HS) with 14 points with freshman forward Desiree Nelson (Fort Defiance, AZ/Window Rock HS) adding 12 points off the bench. Sophomore forward Hannah Hicks (Cleveland, OH/Cleveland Heights) continues to be consistent, scoring 10 points while grabbing 15 rebounds (4 offense, 11 defense).

 

JCC came out swinging in the first quarter, going up 20-3 in the opening frame. Hicks led the offense with five points with freshman guard Anna Jones (Ravenna, OH/Ravenna HS) adding four points.

 

The Triceratops found their offense in the second quarter, outscoring the Jayhawks 17-12 as JCC took a 32-20 lead into the break.

 

In the second half, Palacio took over for JCC as she scored 12 points including a pair of threes as the Jayhawks inserted their dominance to bring home the win.

 

The Jayhawks went 29-for-78 (37.2 percent) from the field with the Triceratops going 15-for-48 (31.3 percent). JCC controlled the paint throughout the game, scoring 40 points inside the Tri-C's 24 points. The Jayhawks also converted defense into offense, scoring 33 points off turnovers.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Wednesday, January 25th, as they travel to No. 18 Niagara County Community College for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
