Emily Sperry plays women's basketball for the Jayhawks and is a freshman student at JCC. She attended high school at Panama where she was on the basketball and swimming teams. Sperry was named 3rd Team All State and to the All State Team as a senior. She was the Post-Journal Player of the Year, division co-MVP, and 4th Team All-WNY the same year. In academics she was on National Honor Society and also made Dean's List through JCC as a senior. Sperry remains undecided in her major but will pursue further education following graduation from here.

Spotlight Athlete of the Week

Emily Sperry is a freshman at JCC who plays on the Jayhawk basketball team. She wanted to play basketball here because she said it is close to home and keeps her busy. She doesn't exactly know what she wants to pursue in school as a major, so this is another reason why she chose JCC. When she isn't playing basketball she likes to go to the Learning Center and get her work done. She also enjoys to hang out with her friends and family when she has the time to.

Sperry has been playing basketball since she was five years old and has enjoyed her time playing the sport no matter what team she has been on. She said, "I really liked the teams that I've played with and I really like the sport, so it all works out." Emily says that the competition and level of play in college basketball is what she finds to be the most enjoyable thing about it.

Since she doesn't know what career field she wants to go into just yet she isn't quite sure if she will continue to play after she gets done at JCC. She wants to figure out her major first then go from there. She has been considering Fredonia State as an option because she likes how close it is to home.

Emily's advice to aspiring athletes is, "If you really enjoy the sport you play then give it your all because good things will happen."
