BINGHAMTON - In the midst of their road trip, the Jamestown Community College softball team dropped a double header to SUNY Broome Community College Tuesday afternoon at Binghamton University Softball Complex.
The Jayhawks (0-12, 0-12 Region 3) were downed 16-3 in game one and 23-6 in the second game.
Game 1: SUNY Broome Community College 16 - Jamestown Community College 3
JCC was led offensively by centerfielder Angelique Palacio (Tucson, AZ/Desert View HS) by going three-for-three at the plate with a triple, a homerun, and two RBIs. Pitcher Desiree Nelson (Window Rock, AZ/Window Rock HS) was also perfect at the plate with a pair of hits.
In her first plate appearance, Palacio hit a ball deep into centerfield to get to third, bringing in left fielder Cassidy Vincent (South Dayton, NY/Pine Valley HS) to take the early 1-0 lead. The Hornets responded by scoring three runs in the first and four more in the second.
The Jayhawks got a run back in the third as Palacio stole home. JCC scored their final run of the game as Palacio hit an inside-the-park homerun down the left field line.
Nelson went the distance on the rubber, surrendering five earned runs on 10 hits and striking out a pair.
Game 2: SUNY Broome Community College 23 - Jamestown Community College 6
Palacio kept up the hot hitting, going three-for-three in the second game with a pair of RBIs. First base Savanna Krystofiak (Brocton, NY/Brocton HS), third base Jena Vacanti (Brocton, NY/Brocton HS), and Vincent each got a pair of hits. Krystofiak also had two RBIs in the game.
WIth Palacio at first after hitting a single, Krystofiak hit a hard groundball down the right field line for a double, scoring Palacio.
In the third, the Jayhawks scored three runs starting with Vincent coming home thanks to Palacio's single on a line drive to right field. For their second run of the inning, Palacio stole home. JCC's final run came when Nelson hit a double down the left field line, bringing in catcher Sydney Dahl (South Dayton, NY/Pine Valley HS) from second.
JCC's last two runs came in the fourth inning with Palacio's one-run single to bring in second base Emma Lindsey (Ripley, NY/Chautauqua Lake Central). Vincent scored their final run on a single from Krystofiak.
Nelson earned the loss in the circle, going one and one-third inning where she surrendered eight earned runs on nine hits. Lindsey came in for relief, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out a pair.
The Jayhawks will be back in action this Thursday, April 20th, as they travel to Genesee Community College for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
