Jayhawk Hockey Open Tryouts Scheduled for May 25th

JAMESTOWN, NY - Jamestown Community College is excited to announce its first open tryouts for the inaugural JCC club hockey team. The tryouts will be held on Saturday, May 25th, from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM at Northwest Arena. Following the tryout, players and parents are invited upstairs for a special presentation from JCC Athletic Director George Sisson, who will speak more about JCC, including classes, campus life, athletics, and more.

"We're very excited to host the first-ever open tryout for JCC Hockey," said head coach Tommy Gerace. "Going into year one, we want to cast a large net to prospective student-athletes to help us field the most competitive team possible. This tryout will allow us to properly evaluate previously scouted players and hopefully discover new ones as well. Tryouts will be a vital aspect of our roster development for our inaugural season and moving forward," added Gerace.

Athletes attending the tryouts may begin checking in at 2:00 PM. Those taking the ice will compete in a full-length scrimmage, with three 20-minute periods, including an ice cut after the second period. Two AAU-certified referees will officiate the scrimmage. AAU rules will be enforced during the scrimmage. There is a $25 cover fee that must be paid on or before the day of tryouts. Coach Gerace will accept cash, checks, or Venmo for the tryout payment. There will be food provided for the players during the presentation.

There is no upper age limit to try out. Players still enrolled in high school are not permitted to participate unless specifically invited by the coaching staff. All players must be equipped with a full face shield or cage during the tryout, regardless of age. Half shields or no helmet face mask will be permitted. This aligns with AAU and College Hockey Federation rules.

A few other notes for those interested: a jersey will be provided to players upon check-in. Jerseys are to be returned to the team following the tryout. There is no upper age limit to try out.
