Johnson & Piazza Earn All-Region Honors

BUFFALO – NJCAA Region 3 has announced their regular season awards with two Jamestown Community College baseball players receiving honors for their outstanding seasons.

Sophomore shortstop/pitcher Nate Johnson (Jamestown, NY/Southwestern High) was named to the NJCAA Region 3 Third Team All-Region while second baseman/pitcher Riley Piazza (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) was named to the NJCAA Region 3 All-Glove Team.

Nate Johnson, Sophomore Shortstop/Pitcher – Third Team All-Region

Johnson had a standout sophomore season for the Jayhawks, leading the team in hits (46), stolen bases (31), and walks (19). Johnson finished second in batting average (.354) and on-base percentage (.452).

Johnson also rewrote the record book, finishing with 22 career doubles. Johnson also helped the team break a pair of team records, setting the mark for most hits in a game with 20 and most stolen bases in a game with 11. In the game at Corning Community College where the records were broken, Johnson had three hits to go along with two stolen bases.

Johnson has had many great games throughout the season individually, but perhaps none better than a home game against Onondaga Community College where he went 3-for-3 at the plate and was a double shy of hitting for the cycle.

On the mound, Johnson made an appearance in three games where he struck out five batters.

Riley Piazza, Sophomore Second Baseman/Pitcher – All-Glove Team

With much depth at the second base position, Piazza was able to solidify himself there where he started in 38 of the team’s 40 game season.

Piazza had a stellar season on defense where he had 44 putouts to go along with 51 assists. On the year, Piazza had a fielding percentage of .979 with only two errors. Piazza was also apart of 12 double plays turned.
