Baseball Completes Season Sweep Of TC3

DRYDEN – Getting back in the win column, the Jamestown Community College baseball team completed the season sweep on Tompkins Cortland Community College Tuesday afternoon.

 

The Jayhawks (5-15, 4-6 Region 3 West) took game one by a score of 11-1 and was able to hold on to a wild 22-19 game in game two.

 

Game 1: Jamestown Community College 11 – Tompkins Cortland Community College 1

Left fielder Timothy Johnson (San Tan Valley, AZ/Comb HS) led the JCC offense, going three-for-four at the plate including a home run while collecting five RBIs. Shortstop Nate Johnson (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern High) and second baseman Riley Piazza (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) each went two-for-three with Piazza hitting two doubles.

 

N. Johnson showed his speed on the bags, stealing five bases which ties an individual game record with Justin Forster who accomplished the feat against SUNY Broome Community College back in the 2016 season. As a team, the Jayhawks had nine stolen bases which ties a team record for stolen bases in a game against Broome in 2016.

 

JCC jumped out to an early 6-0 lead through one and a half innings of play and then scored five unanswered runs to get the 10-run rule in the sixth inning.

 

Pitcher Tanner Potter (Trumansburg, NY/Trumansburg HS) went the distance on the mound to get the win, giving up one run on three hits while striking out four batters.

 

Game 2: Jamestown Community College 22 – Tompkins Cortland Community College 19

T. Johnson continued his hot streak into the second game, going three-for-four with a homerun and four runs. Catcher Wyatt Hennessy (Mukwonago, WI/Mukwonago HS) also had three hits in the game including a double. Piazza, second baseman Chris Navarro (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS), and center fielder De'Sean Rogers (Winter Haven, FL/Winter Haven HS) each had two hits including a triple and five RBIs from Rogers. N. Johnson added another double on the day, giving him 21 career doubles which ranks him first in that category surpassing Brett Miacker since electronic stats were kept back in the 2013 season.

 

After four innings of play, JCC jumped out to a 14-4 lead after three innings including a 12-run explosion in the third inning. The Jayhawks added six more runs in the fourth inning before the Panthers scored 14 unanswered runs to make it a 20-18 game going into the sixth inning.

 

JCC tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning to help salt the game away.

 

Pitcher Timothy Beimel (Saint Marys, PA/Saints Marys HS) earned the win on the bump, going three innings giving up two earned runs on four hits. Eddie Bartoli (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown HS) went on inning in relief, surrendering seven earned runs on seven hits. Zach Rohlin (Russell, PA/Eisenhower HS) came in to finish out the final three innings, surrendering eight earned runs on six hits.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Thursday, April 13th, as they travel to Genesee Community College with a 2 p.m. first pitch.
