Jayhawks Drop Two In Region 3 Opener

SYRACUSE – In their Region 3 opener, the Jamestown Community College baseball team dropped a pair of games to host Onondaga Community College Sunday afternoon.

 

In the first game, the Jayhawks (1-11, 0-2 Region 3) fell in a 13-3 run game and second game, JCC fell in a 13-7 game.

 

Game 1: Onondaga Community College 13 – Jamestown Community College 3

JCC was led offensively by shortstop Nate Johnson (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern High) who went two-for-three at the plate with both his hits being doubles. Third baseman Lucas Marsh (Salamanca, NY/Ellicottville HS) also hit a double with centerfielder Timothy Johnson (San Tan Valley, AZ/Comb HS) driving in a pair of runs.

 

Trailing 1-0 after four innings of action, the Jayhawks took a 3-1 lead. The Lazers responded in the bottom of fifth, scoring 12 runs to secure the win.

 

Pitcher Tanner Potter (Trumansburg, NY/Trumansburg HS) earned the loss on the mound, giving up four earned runs on eight hits in four and two-thirds innings of action. Troy Moussette (Newfield, NY/Newfield HS) came in relief, allowing three earned runs on four hits.

 

Game 2: Onondaga Community College 13 – Jamestown Community College 7

In game two, the Jayhawk offense was led by N. Johnson once again where he went three-for-four while left fielder Hayden Hoag (Salamanca, NY/Salamanca HS) went two-for-three. First baseman Kenny Nickson III (Erie, PA/Erie HS) hit a double while also driving in a pair of runs.

 

The Lazers led the game after four innings of action before JCC scored a run in the fifth and five more runs in the sixth to make it an 8-7. OCC added insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth with five more runs.

 

Pitcher Zach Rohlin (Russel, PA/Eisenhower HS) earned the loss on the mound, surrendering eight earned runs on 12 hits in four innings of action. De'Sean Rogers (Winter Haven, FL/Winter Haven HS) saw one inning of clean pitching with Ethan Phillips (East Durham, NY/Cairo-Durham HS) closing the game out giving up five runs on four hits.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Thursday, March 30th, as they host Tompkins Cortland Community College for a 2 p.m. start.
