Jayhawks Split Season Opener With UC-Clermont

BATAVIA, Ohio - In the opening doubleheader of the Jamestown Community College baseball season, the Jayhawks were able to split with the University of Cincinnati-Clermont Saturday afternoon.

 

JCC was able to take the first game by a score of 3-1 but fell in the second game by a score of 13-2.

 

Game 1: Jamestown Community College 3 -University of Cincinnati-Clermont 1

The Cougars got on the board first in the game, scratching a run across in the first inning of play.

 

The Jayhawks' defense held firm over the next two innings of action before the offense hit a spurt in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs. First baseman Kenny Nickson III (Erie, PA/Erie HS) got on base with designated hitter Wyatt Hennessy (Mukwonago, WI/Mukwonago HS) reaching on a base hit in the next at bat. Outfielder De'Sean Rogers (Winter Haven, FL/Winter Haven HS) batted in Nickson III as he hit a double to get the scoring going. Outfielder Timothy Johnson (San Tan Valley, AZ/Comb HS) hit a deep ball into right fielder, legging out a triple while scoring Hennessy and Rogers.

 

Pitcher Bryce Jackson (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) got the win on the mound, going six innings, fanning out four hits, and striking out eight batters. Nate Johnson (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern High) closed the game out to get the save, striking out one batter.

 

Game 2: University of Cincinnati-Clermont 13 - Jamestown Community College 3

Clermont jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after two innings of play before Nickson III drew a walk to score a run to make it 2-1.

 

The Cougars responded, scoring four runs in the bottom of the third to make it 6-1.

 

In the fifth, the Jayhawks scored another run to make it 6-2. Clermont added to their run total in the fifth and sixth inning to make it a 13-2 ball game.

 

In the seventh, Rogers hit a double to drive in a run to make it 13-3.

 

Nickson III went two-for-three at the plate with both hits coming as doubles. Nickson III also led the way with two RBIs.

 

Tanner Potter (Trumansburg, NY/Trumansburg HS) went five innings on the mound, allowing nine hits and six earned runs. Troy Moussette (Newfield, NY/Newfield HS) closed out the game allowing two hits and striking out one batter.

 

The Jayhawks will be back at it tomorrow, March 12th, for another doubleheader with the Cougars starting at 12 p.m.
