Six Jayhawks Named To All-WNYAC Teams

SANBORN – The Western New York Athletic Conference has announced the 2022 All-WNYAC Baseball Teams with six Jamestown Community College players getting the nod.

 

For the Jayhawks, redshirt-freshman pitcher Bryce Jackson (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS), redshirt-freshman first baseman Yordangel Gonzalez (Miami, FL/Miami Jackson Senior HS), and shortstop/pitcher Nate Johnson (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern High) all received First Team All-WNYAC Honors. Outfielders Wyatt Hennessy (Mukwonago, WI/Mukwonago HS), Billy Harmon (Racine, OH/Southern Local), and Ayden Reagle (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove HS).

 

Bryce Jackson, Redshirt-Freshman Pitcher – First Team All-WNYAC

Jackson was once again the go-to man on the mound, accumulating a record of 4-4 in nine appearances including one save.

 

Jackson threw 57 strikeouts, had an ERA of 2.23 while posting an 11.57 strikeouts per nine innings. Jackson’s ERA dropped .47 from a year ago while also giving up fewer runs, earned runs, and base on balls.

 

Jackson eclipsed the 100 strikeout mark of his career, striking out a career-high 13 batters in the 7-0 win in the season-opener against Westmoreland County Community College. Jackson’s performance earned him the NJCAA Region 3 Player of the Week.

 

Jackson had one more double-digit strikeout performance on the season, striking out 12 Onondaga Community College batters to get the win in a 1-0 game.

 

Another highlight on the season for Jackson came in a crazy 13-12 win over SUNY Broome Community College, coming into the game in the top of the seventh inning for the save opportunity. Jackson came into the game and completely shut down the Hornets offense, striking out two batters to secure the win.

 

Yordangel Gonzalez, Redshirt-Freshman First Baseman – Frist Team All-WNYAC

Gonzalez took a big jump this season at the plate, collecting 36 hits, 17 extra-base hits, a batting average of .356, and an on base plus slugging percentage of 1.029 while driving in 27 runs.

 

Gonzalez put together five games where he had three hits. At Tompkins Cortland Community College, Gonzalez went 3-for-3 at the plate in game two including one home run and drove in a season high four runs.

 

Gonzalez was also a solid first baseman on the defensive side, collecting 149 putouts on 156 attempts for a fielding percentage of .974.

 

Nate Johnson, Freshman Shortstop/Pitcher – First Team All-WNYAC

Johnson was stellar at the plate in the leadoff roll, collecting a team-high 38 hits, 17 extra-base hits, hitting .388, and had an on base plus slugging percentage of 1.074.

 

Johnson had a career-high four hits against Finger Lakes Community College including three doubles on day back on April 24th in the second game.

 

On the mound, Johnson saw action in eight games where he picked up one win and one save. Johnson struck out 14 batters on the season.

 

Wyatt Hennessy, Freshman Outfielder – Second Team All-WNYAC

Hennessy was a nice combo of power and speed, collecting 25 hits including 14 extra-base hits, a .281 batting average and a .922 on base plus slugging while also driving in 22 runs.

 

Hennessy had a monster game in a wild 13-12 win over SUNY Broome Community College in the second of a doubleheader, going 4-for-5 at the plate and drove in seven runs to help ignite the Jayhawk offense.

 

Later that season against the Hornets, Hennessy went 3-for-5 at the plate including two homeruns in the first of a doubleheader.

 

In the field, Hennessy had a fielding percentage of .953 where he had 37 putouts on 43 attempts.

 

Billy Harmon, Freshman Outfielder/Pitcher – Second Team All-WNYAC

Harmon was a do-everything player this season for the Jayhawks, seeing action in the outfield, on the mound, and some behind the plate.

 

Harmon also saw his numbers take a jump from a year ago, collecting 23 hits, six doubles, a batting average of .295, an on base plus slugging of .790 while driving in 15 runs.

 

Harmon had a season-high three hits in three games while also having a season-high three RBIs in the season-opener against Westmoreland Community College.

 

On the mound, Harmon had a record of 2-3 while striking out 13 batters.

 

In the field, Harmon had 25 putouts on 33 attempts for a fielding percentage of .909.

 

Ayden Reagle, Freshman Outfielder – Second Team All-WNYAC

Like the rest of the group, Reagle saw his numbers improve exponentially in his second season with the Jayhawks. Reagle had 23 hits, had a batting average of .324 and a on base plus slugging of .776.

 

Reagle had two hits in seven games on the year to go along with a season-high two RBIs in game two of a doubleheader at SUNY Broome CC.

 

In the field, Reagle was a solid as they come. Reagle had 42 putouts on 44 attempts for a fielding percentage of .955.
