YOUNGWOOD, Pa. - After splitting their opening day doubleheader, the Jamestown Community College baseball team dropped a 10-4 decision against host Westmoreland County Community College Friday afternoon.
Designated hitter Yordangel Gonzalez (Miami, FL/Miami Jackson Senior HS) led the offense for the Jayhawks (1-2) with three hits while first baseman Kenny Nickson III (Erie, PA/Erie HS) added a pair of rbis.
After trailing 5-0 after the first three innings, JCC was able to get on the board as right fielder Mingjong Seong (Hanam-Si, South Korea/Baemyeong HS) drove in Gonzalez with an RBI groundout to make it 5-1. The Wolfpack answered with a run scored in the bottom of the fourth, making it 6-1.
Westmoreland County added four more runs on the seventh to push their lead to 10-1.
JCC kept battling and in the eighth they added a pair of runs thanks to two RBI single by Nickson III to drive in Gonzalez and left fielder Wyatt Hennessy (Mukwonago, WI/Mukwonago HS) to make it 10-3 with one more inning to go. In the ninth, outfielder Sal Carmona (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) got on base with a double and later scored by a double from middle infielder Chris Navarro (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) but was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Pitcher Adonis Collado (Perth Amboy, NY/Perth Amboy HS) earned the loss on the mound, striking out six batters while giving up four hits and six runs over five innings of work. Walt Rybcynski (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis HS) took over the next two innings of work, giving up four runs on three hits. Riley Piazza (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) closed things out with one inning of action, striking out a pair of batters.
The Jayhawks will be back in action on Tuesday, March 22nd, as they travel to Monroe Community College with game one starting at 1 p.m.
