Jayhawks Close Season With a Road Doubleheader at Finger Lakes CC

CANANDAIGUA - Closing out the 2021 season, the Jamestown Community College baseball team fell to Finger lakes Community College in doubleheader action.

 

Game 1: Jamestown Community College 3 - Finger Lakes Community College 4

 

 The Jayhawks (9-18, 7-13 Region 3 West) looked promising going into the game on the defensive side as redshirt-freshman pitcher Bryce Jackson (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) retired the side for the Lakers, striking out all three batters.

 

The Lakers slowly built a lead over the next three innings, scoring a run each to take the 3-0 lead. After a scoreless fifth inning, the Jayhawks got their offense going.

 

In the sixth, freshman shortstop Ethan Abegg (Commerce City, CO/Prarie View HS) got on base, hitting a double down the left field line. Sophomore left fielder Wyatt Hennessy (Mukwonago, WI/Mukwonago HS) was next up to bat, hitting a double to right field, scoring Abegg. Sophomore first baseman Nick Rini (Powhatan, VA/Knock HS) scored the second run of the inning, hitting a single to center field to bring Hennessy home.

 

JCC knotted the game at 3-3 in the seventh inning with sophomore second baseman German Nolasco (Spring Hill, FL/Weeki Wachee HS) hitting his own double to right field, bringing sophomore catcher Lucas Porpiglia (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) home from second base to tie the game.

 

In the bottom of the seventh, the Lakers hit an rbi single to left field with two outs, coming away with the win.

 

Freshman designated hitter Josh Lupo (Stafford, VA/Brooke Point HS) and Nolasco led the hitting for the Jayhawks, going 2-for-3 at the plate.

 

Jackson went the distance on the mound, earning the loss. Jackson gave up six hits while striking out seven batters.

 

Game 2: Jamestown Community College 0 - Finger Lakes Community College 4

 

The Jayhawks had an opportunity to strike first in the second inning as sophomore catcher Billy Harmon (Racine, OH/Souther Local) hit a two-out double to right field to spark some offense. Sophomore first baseman Chris Calladine (Andover, NY/Andover Centers Look School) got on base in the next at-bat, drawing the walk. Freshman center fielder Ayden Reagle (Jamestown, NY/Maple Grove HS) hit one to deep center field but the Lakers were able to get there in time to get out of the inning.

 

The Lakers got on the board in the bottom of the second inning, scoring a pair of runs. They added to their lead in the third, getting one run across.

 

JCC had another opportunity in the fourth inning as Rini hit a lead-off to right field to get a runner in scoring position. Sophomore third baseman Roberto Aracena (Miami, FL/Citi Christian Academy) kept the hitting going, getting on with a single to center field. On the play, Rini tried to come home but was thrown out on the play.

 

Sophomore pitcher David Talkington (Allegany, PA/Port Allegany HS) started the game on the mound, going one and one-third and gave up one run. Freshman pitcher Bryan Gardner (Falconer, NY/Falconer HS) saw action in three and two-third innings, giving up three runs and striking out three batters. Aracena closed the game out, striking out two of the four batters he faced.
