Gonzalez Goes Deep as the Jayhawks Split with ECC

JAMESTOWN - As the regular season is starting to come to the end, every game is crucial for the Jamestown Community College baseball team as they split today's series with Erie Community College.

 

Game 1: Jamestown Community College 6 - Erie Community College 4

 

After giving up a pair of runs to start the game, the Jayhawks (7-10, 5-5 Region 3 West) responded quickly, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first to make it 3-2.

 

To get the scoring started, sophomore right fielder Billy Harmon (Racine, OH/Southern Local) hit a fly ball to right field, bringing in left fielder Wyatt Hennessy (Mukwonago, WI/Mukwonago HS). Harmon reached first base on an error by the Kats. Sophomore third baseman Roberto Aracena (Miami, FL/Citi Christian Academy) kept the scoring going, hitting a double on a line drive to center field as Harmon scored the run.

 

To cap off the scoring, sophomore designated hitter Nick Rini (Powhatan, VA/Knock HS) came home as redshirt-freshman Yordangel Gonzalez (Miami, FL/Miami Jackson Senior HS) singles on a line drive to center field.

 

JCC continued to add to the scoring, scoring a pair of runs in the second inning  to go up 5-2. Freshman shortstop Ethan Abegg (Commerce, CO/Prarie View HS). Harmon drove in the final run of the inning with an rbi single to center field.

 

Gonzalez added an insurance run in the third inning with a solo shot to left field for his first collegiate home run.

 

The Kats made things interesting in the seventh, scoring a pair of runs but the Jayhawks would hold on.

 

Rini continues to play well, going 3-for-3 at the plate. Hennessy went 2-for-3 with a double with Gonzalez going 2-for-3 with two rbis.

 

Redshirt-Freshman Bryce Jackson (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) went the distance on the mound, fanning out six hits and tying a career-high 11 strikeouts on the day.

 

Game 2: Jamestown Community College 4 - Erie Community College 7

 

The Kats took a quick 1-0 before the Jayhawks answered with runs scored in the second and third inning to go up 2-1. Freshman center fielder Ayden Reagle (Jamestown, NY/Maple Grove HS) grounded out to second base but Aracena scored to get JCC on the board.

 

In the third inning, Aracena hit a ball deep to center field for a double, scoring Hennessy to take the 2-1 lead.

 

The Kats regained the lead in the fourth inning, scoring three runs to go up 4-2. The Jayhawks squared things up at 4-4 as Rini and Aracena scored on errors committed by ECC.

 

ECC regained the lead in the sixth, scoring a run. The Kats added two insurance runs in the seventh.

 

Aracena had a solid day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one rbi and two runs.

 

The Jayhawks showed their base running skills, stealing seven bases. Hennessy and freshman Josh Lupo (Stafford, VA/Brooke Point HS) lead the way with two stolen bases each.

 

Sophomore Adonis Collado (Perth Amboy, NJ/Perth Amboy HS) went the distance on the mound, surrendering five earned runs while collecting six strikeouts.
