Reagle, Rini Each Homer as the Jayhawks Sweep the Barons

JAMESTOWN - The bats were hard at work this past Saturday as the Jamestown Community College baseball team swept visiting Corning Community College.

 

Game 1: Jamestown Community College 7 - Corning Community College 2

 

The Jayhawks (5-4, 1-3 WNYAC) were at a deadlock with the Barons after 2 innings of action. In the bottom of the third, freshman center fielder Ayden Reagle (Jamestown, NY/Maple Grove HS) took a pitch to left field, driving in two runs to take the 2-0 lead.

 

In the fifth, sophomore catcher Lucas Porpiglia (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk HS) set himself up with a double to start the inning. Porpiglia scored on the following play thanks to an error by the Barons, trying to throw out Reagle. The Jayhawks added on one more run with Reagle coming home with a pair of errors from Corning.

 

JCC put the game out of reach in the sixth inning, tacking on three more runs. After hitting a single, sophomore third baseman Roberto Aracena (Miami, FL/Citi Christian Academy) rounded the bases of a ground ball from sophomore designated hitter Nick Rini (Powhatan, VA/Knock HS). Rini reached by an error from the Barons.

 

After sophomore right fielder Billy Harmon (Racine, OH/Southern Local) got walked, Porpiglia added two more rbis after hitting a single to centerfield, driving in Rini and Harmon.

 

The Barons added two runs in the seventh.

 

Redshirt-freshman pitcher Bryce Jackson (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) went the distance on the mound once again, fanning out five hits and tying a career-high 11 strikeouts.

 

Aracena, Porpiglia, and Reagle all had big bats, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate.

 

Game 2: Jamestown Community College 7 - Corning Community College 3

 

Looking to carry over their momentum from game one, Rini got a hold of one and took it to deep center field to get the Jayhawks up 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth. 

 

The Barons answered back, scoring two runs in the fifth to take the 2-1 advantage. After that, the flood gates opened for JCC, scoring 5 runs to take the 6-2 lead. Harmon drove in Porpiglia on a triple to left field. Reagle added another rbi on the day, driving in Harmon on a ground ball, reaching by error. 

 

Freshman right fielder Josh Lupo (Stafford, VA/Brooke Point HS) drove in two runs, driving in Reagle and freshman shortstop Ethan Abegg (Commerce City, CO/Prarie View HS). Redshirt-Freshman designated hitter Yordangel Gonzalez (Miami, FL/Miami Jackson Senior HS) capped off the scoring, driving in Lupo on an rbi single.

 

Corning added another run in the sixth to bring the score 6-3 in favor of the Jayhawks. JCC added one more insurance run in the sixth as sophomore second baseman German Nolasco (Spring Hill, FL/Weeki Wachee HS) scored on an error to make it 7-3.

 

Sophomore pitcher Adonis Collado (Perth Amboy, NJ/Perth Amboy HS) went the distance on the mound, spreading out four hits while getting a career-high nine strikeout.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action thi Saturday, April 17th, as they travel to Monroe Community College for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
