Jayhawks To Start Inaugural Season Of eSports

OLEAN – It's a new era of athletics at the Jamestown Community College with eSport team looking to make their debut this spring season.

The Jayhawks will be competing in Overwatch 2 this spring semester, a game that will take five individuals working as one to complete their mission at hand. Overwatch 2 is a team-based action game that is set in the optimistic future, where each five player team brawl it out on the battlefield.

There are three positions that are on the battlefield that complement one another. There is the tank where their main task is the take damage and shatter fortified positions, like closely grouped enemies and narrow chokepoints. The tanks on the team lead the way into battle. Liam Conroy (Great Valley, NY/Franklinville HS) will be the one leading the charge for the Jayhawks.

Next are the damage players where their main objective is to seek out, engage, and obliterate the enemy with wide-ranging tools, abilities, and play styles. Though they can deal out damage, they are susceptible to taking damage and will require backup to survive. JCC will be led by Drake Kavanagh (Portville NY/Portville HS) and Tavi Riling (Franklinville, NY/Franklinville HS) to help take down the opposing teams.

The last key component of Overwatch 2 is the support players. These heroes empower their allies by healing, shielding, boosting damage, and disabling foes. Support is the backbone of the team's survival. This season, the Jayhawks will be led by Chris Stebbins (Portville, NY/Portville HS) and Joseph Terhune III (Olean, NY/Olean HS) will play key roles in any success this season.

The Jayhawks will begin competition this Friday, February 17th, as they take on Bergen Community College at 5 p.m. JCC will compete the next six Fridays where they take on Yavapi College (February 24), Ocean County College (March 3), Marshalltown Community College (March 10), Northeast State Community College (March 17), Carl Sanburg College (March 24), and wrap up the season against Hocking College (March 31).

JCC will be competing in their newly renovated eSports Stadium on the Cattaraugus County Campus.
