Jayhawks dominant POD Play adds to Impressive Win Streak

The JCC Jayhawks Women's Volleyball Team (21-5) traveled to Onondaga Community College for Region 3 POD Play.  The Jayhawks come in having won 13 matches in a row.  Their first opponents were the Spartans of Cayuga Community College (7-22).  The first set was all Jayhawks as their attacking offense and quick defense didn't allow double digit points as they went on to win the set 25-8.  The second set saw the Spartans play better but the Jayhawks still were able to win soundly 25-13.  The third set had the Spartans against the ropes but not lying down as they put their best effort of the match but the Jayhawks were still too strong as the Jayhawks were able to take the set 25-15 and win the match 3-0.  The Jayhawks were led by #9 SallyAnne Rudny (Jamestown) who had 16 kills and 9 digs; #10 Madison Alexander (Jamestown) had 10 kills and 15 digs; #7 Miranda Gross (Little Valley) had 30 assists and 6 digs; #4 Ashley Butman (Jamestown) had 14 digs and 4 aces; #2 Destiney Portlow (Olean) had 5 kills; #8 Erin Butman (Jamestown) had 4 kills; and #3 Kaitlyn Hoth (Cherry Creek) had 8 digs.

For the second match of the Region 3 POD Play, the Jayhawks (22-5) second opponents were the Cannoneers of Jefferson Community College (25-7).  What seemed like a close on paper seemed to be a mismatch as the Jayhawks took the first set 25-14.  The second set saw the Cannoneers bring the skill and talent that lead them to 25 wins this season, scoring 21 points on the Jayhawks but the Jayhawks have won 14 matches in a row and were able to fend off the Cannoneers advance to win the set 25-21.  The close second set seemed to give the momentum back to the Jayhawks as they were able to soundly defeat the Cannoneers to win the set 25-11 and win the match 3-0.  The Jayhawks were led by #9 SallyAnne Rudny (Jamestown) who had 20 kills and 8 digs; #10 Madison Alexander (Jamestown) had 13 kills and 15 digs; #7 Miranda Gross (Little Valley) had 39 assists; #2 Destiney Portlow (Olean) had 5 kills and 3 blocks; #8 Erin Butman (Jamestown) had 4 kills; and #3 Kaitlyn Hoth (Cherry Creek) had 7 digs.

For the third and final match of the Region 3 POD Play, the Jayhawks (22-5) opponents were the Lazers of Onondaga Community College (17-3).  Having won 15 matches in a row, the Jayhawks looked to make fast work of the Lazers.  However, the Lazers came to play and battled the Jayhawks closely with the Jayhawks taking a narrow 25-22 win in the first set.  The second set was more to the Jayhawks liking as they soundly beat the Lazers 25 11 and were 1 set away from closing out the day.  But the Lazers had other plans and did not just lie down, but the Jayhawks have not come this far without facing tough opponents and were able to hold on to win the set 25-22 for the 3-0 win over the Lazers, making this the 16th match in a row for the Jayhawks.  The Jayhawks were led by #9 SallyAnne Rudny (Jamestown) who had 19 kills, 3 aces, and 3 digs; #10 Madison Alexander (Jamestown) had 8 kills and 7 digs; #2 Destiney Portlow (Olean) had 7 kills; #7 Miranda Gross (Little Valley) had 30 assists and 4 digs; #4 Ashley Butman (Jamestown) had 6 digs; and #3 Kaitlyn Hoth (Cherry Creek) had 3 digs.
