Jayhawks Sweep all 3 opponents in POD Tournament

The JCC Jayhawks Women's Volleyball team (12-5) hosted a Region III POD Tournament that included three other colleges.  Their first opponent was the Cougars of Genesee Community College (3-7).  The Jayhawks had won 8 of their last 9 matches and looked to continue their winning ways.  The Jayhawks got off to a hot start, winning the first set strongly 25-9.  The second set saw the Cougars unable to match the Jayhawks firepower as the Jayhawks again won soundly 25-10.  The third set was the Cougars play the Jayhawks closer but the momentum was still on the Jayhawks side as they downed the Cougars 25-16 to win the match 3-0.  The Jayhawks were led by #9 SallyAnne Rudny (Jamestown) who had 15 kills and 8 digs; #10 Madison Alexander (Jamestown) had 5 kills, 6 aces, and 7 digs; #7 Miranda Gross (Little Valley) had 27 assists and 9 digs; #8 Erin Butman (Jamestown) had 5 kills; #4 Ashley Butman (Jamestown) had 12 digs; #2 Destiney Portlow (Olean) had 4 kills; #3 Kaitlyn Hoth (Cherry Creek) had 5 digs; and #12 Elizabeth Swoger (Ripley) had 3 aces.

The Jayhawks (13-5) second opponent at the JCC POD tournament was the Lakers of Finger Lakes Community College (11-5).  The Jayhawks were riding high after their defeat of the Cougars in 3 strait sets and looked to repeat the same fate on the Lakers.  The first set saw the Jayhawks keep the Lakers in check and the Lakers defense was unable to stop the Jayhawks as the Jayhawks won 25-14.  The second set saw the Lakers keep a better pace with the Jayhawks but were unable to capitalize as the Jayhawks won the set 25-16.  The third set saw the Jayhawks with more answers for the Lakers offense as the Jayhawks won with their best performance 25-13 to win the match 3-0.  The Jayhawks were led by #9 SallyAnne Rudny (Jamestown) who had 16 kills, 4 aces, and 4 digs; #10 Madison Alexander (Jamestown) had 8 kills and 13 digs; #7 Miranda Gross (Little Valley) had 37 assists and 9 digs; #2 Destiney Portlow (Olean) had 7 kills; #8 Erin Butman (Jamestown) had 6 kills; and #4 Ashley Butman (Jamestown) had 9 digs.

The Jayhawks (14-5) third opponent at the JCC POD tournament was the Tribunes of Monroe Community College (8-6).  The Tribunes and Jayhawks have often jockeyed for the right to be the best team in the region over the years and no lead is safe when these two teams play.  The Jayhawks, now winners of 10 out of 11 matches where they shut their opponent down looked to do the same thing to the Tribunes.  The first set saw the Jayhawks pull away with solid play to win 25-16.  The second set saw the Jayhawks more dominant, taking down the Tribunes 25-13.  The third set had the Jayhawks momentum for the day continue to raise the level of play as they won 25-15 to win the match over the Tribunes 3-0.  The Jayhawks were led by #9 SallyAnne Rudny (Jamestown) who had 16 kills and 9 digs; #10 Madison Alexander (Jamestown) had 7 kills and 4 digs; #7 Miranda Gross (Little Valley) had 22 assists and 4 digs; #4 Ashley Butman (Jamestown) had 14 digs; and #3 Kaitlyn Hoth (Cherry Creek) had 6 digs.
