Jayhawks start strong in Region III POD Play

The JCC Jayhawks Women's Volleyball team (6-4) went on the road for Region III POD play hosted by Fulton Montgomery Community College.   The Jayhawks first opponent was the Generals from Herkimer County Community College (0-5).  The first set saw the Jayhawks set the tone early with dominating 25-5 win.  The second set was also dominated by the Jayhawks 25-12.  The third set saw the Generals offense begin to gel but it was too little, too late as the Jayhawks won 25-18 to win the match 3-0.  The Jayhawks offense was led by #9 SallyAnne Rudny (Jamestown) who had 12 kills; #2 Destiney Portlow (Olean) who had 7 kills; #10 Madison Alexander (Jamestown) who had 6 kills, 6 assists, 6 digs, and 5 aces; #8 Erin Butman (Jamestown) had 3 kills; and #7 Miranda Gross (Little Valley) had 23 aces. 

The JCC Jayhawks (7-4) second opponent for Region III POD play was the Hawks from Mohawk Valley Community College (1-4).  The first set had the Jayhawks run smoothly on offense and defense as they downed the Hawks 25-16.  The second set saw the Jayhawks momentum continue as they downed the Hawks 25-14.  The third set left right off where the previous two sets ended as they Jayhawks defeated the Hawks 25-14 to win the match 3-0.  The Jayhawks were led again by #9 SallyAnne Rudny (Jamestown)  who had 20 kills, 4 aces, and 4 digs; #7 Miranda Gross (Little Valley) had 32 assists and 7 digs; #10 Madison Alexander (Jamestown) had 7 kills and 6 digs; #4 Ashley Butman (Jamestown) had 5 kills and 6 digs; and #3 Kaitlyn Hoth (Cherry Creek) and #12 Elizabeth Swoger (Ripley) each had 3 digs.

The JCC Jayhawks (7-5) third and final opponent for Region III POD play was the Raiders of Fulton Montgomery Community College (8-1).  The first set saw they Jayhawks in a position they had not been in all day, on the defensive and trying to get a rally as the Raiders soundly defeated them in the first set 25-15.  The second set saw a closer contest as the Jayhawks put on a better performance but it was not enough as the Raiders continued their dominance to win the second set 25-20.  The Jayhawks fought valiantly in the third set but the Raiders had the Jayhawks number on this day as the third set was a duplicated of the second 25-20 as the Raiders won the match 3-0.  The Jayhawks offense was again led by #9 SallyAnne Rudny (Jamestown) who had 14 kills and 3 digs; #10 Madison Alexander (Jamestown) had 9 kills and 5 digs; #7 Miranda Gross (Little Valley) had 29 assists; #2 Destiney Portlow (Olean) had 4 kills; #4 Ashley Butman (Jamestown) had 5 digs; #3 Kaitlyn Hoth (Cherry Creek) had 4 digs; and #8 Erin Butman (Jamestown) had 3 digs.
