Jayhawks start strong at Monroe CC Invitational

The Jayhawks traveled to Monroe Community College to take part in the Monroe CC Invitational.  The Jayhawks (1-0) first opponent was its longtime rival, the Tribunes from Monroe Community College (0-1).  A close first match saw the Tribunes take down the Jayhawks in a close match 25-23.  The Jayhawks held strong and kept up the pace as they won 27-25 in the second match.  The third match again saw both teams playing strong as the Tribunes took the third match 26-24 puttting JCC's backs to the wall.  The Jayhawks responded with a dominating performance winning the fourth match 25-16 and the fifth and final match 15-10 to give the Jayhawks the 3-2 victory over Monroe.  the Jayhawks were led by #9 SallyAnne Rudny (Jamestown) who had 24 kills and 20 digs; #4 Ashley Butman (Jamestown) who had 10 kills and 10 digs; #10 Madison Alexander (Jamestown) who had 4 kills, 38 assists, and 10 digs; #2 Destiney Portlow (Olean) had 9 kills and 6 digs; and #3 Kailyn Hoth (Cherry Creek) had 8 digs.

The Jayhawks (1-1) second opponent was the Red Barons of Corning Community College (1-1).  The Jayhawks looked to keep the momentum going but the Red Barons proved to be a difficult opponent.  The Jayhawks won the first match 26-24 in a close contest.  The Red Barons then went toe to toe with the Jayhawks, and won the second match 29-27.  This seemed to be a breaking point for the Jayhawks who lost the third match 25-19 and played a close game in the forth match, losing 25-23 as the Red Barons took the victory 3-1.  The Jayhawks were led by #9 SallyAnne Rudny (Jamestown) who had 19 kills, 11 digs, and 3 assists; #10 Madison Alexander (Jamestown) who had 3 kills, 21 assists, 5 digs, and 3 blocks; #2 Destiney Portlow (Olean) had 8 kills and 4 digs; #4 Ashley Butman (Jamestown) who had 6 kills and 6 digs; and #12 Elizabeth Swoger (Ripley) and #3 Kailyn Hoth (Cherry Creek) had 6 digs each.

The Jayhawks (1-2) third opponent was the Spartans of Northampton Community College (3-0) who had gone through both Corning Community College and Monroe Community College and had only lost 1 match.  The Spartans momentum continued as they defeated the Jayhawks 25-11, 25-16, and 25-16.  The Jayhawks were led by #10 Madison Alexander (Jamestown) who had 14 assists and 14 digs; SallyAnne Rudny (Jamestown) who had 9 kills and 3 digs;  #4 Ashley Butman (Jamestown) who had 9 kills and 3 digs; #2 Destiney Portlow (Olean) had 5 digs; and #12 Elizabeth Swoger (Ripley) and #3 Kailyn Hoth (Cherry Creek) had 3 digs each.
