BRADFORD, Pa. – Jamestown Community College wrestling team was able to pick up the win on the road, defeating NCAA DIII opponent Pitt-Bradford, 33-25.
The Jayhawks (1-0) was able to open the match 12-0 lead on the Panthers. Kason Smeltzer (125) got the win in the opening match via forfeit. Jomar Medero (133) was able to carry the momentum, defeating Colton Davis by fall, needing 4:48 to do so.
Pitt-Bradford was able to stop the run as Elijah Hernandez got a 10-7 decision victory over Taige Jones (141). Colten Studley (149) got the Jayhawks back a win, defeating Trenton Wills by a 9-6 decision to give JCC an 18-3 lead.
Otto Davidson (157) got the Jayhawks another six points, winning by forfeit. The Panthers got six points back as Nate Powley won his match over Kalob Brown (165) by fall. Powley needed 2:09 to pick up the win. Pitt-Brad continued their run as Daniel Shields defeated Jesse Storch (174) by fall in 2:27. JCC still held a 21-15 advantage over the Panthers with three matches to go.
The teams both forfeited the 184-pound weight class as neither team had a competitor. Dan Torres (197) was able to put the match on ice, picking up the fall over Derek Ridgeway in 5:59. Mitch Dowd closed out the night with an 8-0 major decision over Max Willis.
The Jayhawks will be back in action this Saturday, November 9th, as they compete in the Washington & Jefferson Invitational at 9:45 a.m.
