JAMESTOWN – Jamestown Community College wrestling team fell to No. 16 Mercyhurst North East, 35-11 Wednesday night at the Physical Education Complex.
The Jayhawks (1-3, 0-1 WNYAC) picked up two wins on the night with Dan Torres (174) and Paul Tripi (184).
Torres faced Dimitrius Smith and had control throughout the entire match. Torres only got two points in the first period but was able to wear Smith down as the match went on. In the second period, Torres got another takedown that followed by a four-point near fall to make it 8-0 with one period remaining. Torres was got the escape point at the beginning of the third period and quickly took down Smith. With Torres in control, he was able to pick up the 15-0 tech. fall with another four-point near fall.
In the 184-pound match, Tripi was able to go to work. Tripi, competing in his first collegiate match, was in the hole early, being taken down by Matthew Hammond. Tripi responded with a takedown and quickly got the fall in 2:31.
Jomar Medero (133) had a close match with Dillion Schnars, falling in a close 6-5 decision. Going into the third period, Medero was down 5-2. Medero was able to escape from Schnars early in the third. Medero went on the offensive and got the two-point take down, making it 5-4. Medero allowed Schnars to escape to allow himself to get another takedown. Medero worked hard in the closing seconds but came up shorts.
The Jayhawks will hit the road this Sunday as the travel to the NYS Championships, competing against New York State teams from the NJCAA and NCAA levels.
