COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA - After what has been a historic season for Dan Torres (174), his season has come to an end after a hard fought match in the finals.
To start his day, Torres faced the No. 2 seed Jayden Smith from Northeast Oklahoma and was a good test to start the afternoon. Both competitors battle back and forth in the first period before Torres gained the advantage in the second period. Torres was able to ride out Smith in the third period to help secure the win.
Moving onto the finals match, it was laid out perfect for it to be an all Region III match. Torres faced No. 1 seed Jordan Bushey from Niagara County Community College, a rematch from the 2020 NJCAA Eastern District A Championships where Bushey came away with a 2-0 decision win.
In the finals, Bushey got on the board to go up 2-0 with a takedown. Torres was able to escape to cut the deficit to 2-1. Torres did escape once again but Bushey was awarded the ride time point to help secure the 3-2 victory.
Torres was the highest placed Jayhawk to finish the NJCAA Wrestling Championships since Phil Roblee won a championship in 1977.
Torres finished the season with a record of 42-7, a new JCC single season record for wins.
As a team, the Jayhawks finished 24th out of 51 teams with 18.5 points.
Jamestown will look to rebuild for the 2020-21 season with the departures of Seth MacTavish and Dan Torres.
