STONE RIDGE – No. 13 Jamestown Community College wrestling team rebounded on the road this past weekend, picking up two wins at the SUNY Ulster Tri-Match.
The Jayhawks (4-8) defeated Union County College by a score of 30-22 and then came back to defeat host SUNY Ulster County Community College by a score of 30-15.
Against Union County, a school from Region XIX, Jamestown fell behind early with the Owls taking a quick 10-0 lead. Taige Jones (141) go JCC on the board with a forfeit win and got the lead with a Colten Studley (149) picking up the fall, going up 12-10.
Seth MacTavish (157) continued the carry the momentum for the Jayhawks, picking up a win by fall. Otto Davidson (165) added another six-points to the Jamestown total with a win by forfeit. Torres (174) rounded out the scoring for JCC win a fall in his match.
After the duals, the teams competed in two exhibition matches. Torres wrestling in the 184-pound class win a win by fall and Davidson competed in the 157-pound class, winning by a major decision.
Against SUNY Ulster County Community College, a school from Region XV, The Jayhawks fell behind early, 5-0. Cody Pool (133) got JCC on the board with a forfeit win in the next match. Jones continued the momentum with a win by fall in the next match. Studley extended the lead with a forfeit win, putting Jamestown up 18-5.
The Senators picked up a win in the 157-pound class with a major decision, making it 18-9. MacTavish got JCC back on the board with a fall and Torres put the match out of reach with a win by forfeit.
The Jayhawks will be back in action this Saturday as they host No. 7 Niagara County Community College. Then on Sunday, The Jayhawks will host the Jamestown Open, starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Physical Education Complex.
