Torres places first at Brockport Open

BROCKPORT – Dan Torres (174) picked up where he left off last season, finishing in first at the Brockport Open.

 

Torres started out the day with a true test against Adonis Morano. Neither competitor was able to gain any ground in regulation as the two went into sudden victory-1. Torres was able to come out on top with a 11-9 victory. Torres moved onto the quarterfinals where he faced William Laughlin of the University of Scranton. Just like his first match, Torres needed extra time to get the win, picking up the fall in 8:50.

 

In the semifinals match, was able to get a 3-0 decision win over Christopher Eames of Brockport. In the championship match, Torres wrestled his way to a 6-5 decision victory over Coy Hall.

 

Joey Perry (141) had himself a great showing on the day, placing third. Perry was able to win an 8-7 decision over Owen Kissell of Alfred State in round one. In the quarterfinals, Perry was able to pick up the fall over Jacob Manscuso of Niagara County Community College, needing 2:52 to do so. In the semifinals match, Perry was bested by Anthony Clarizio of the University of Scranton via a fall in :36.

 

In the consolation bracket, Perry beat Kissell once again, this time by a 9-4 decision win. In the third-place, Perry picked up his first major decision win on the year. Perry defeated Mancuso by a score of 15-4.

 

The Jayhawks had one other wrestler place, with Max Willis (hwt.) placing fourth. Wills started out of the gates fast, defeating Harry Nice of Alfred State by pin fall, needing :30 to do so. Willis carried the momentum in the next round, defeating Leroy Williams of Niagara County Community College by pin, needing :32 to do so. In the semifinals match, Willis fell to Sam Weiger by fall.

 

In the consolation semifinals match, Willis was able to edge out Nick Barrett of Alfred State by a 2-1 sudden victory-1 win. In the third-place match, Willis fell to Kyle Fitzgerald of Alfred State by a fall in :19.

 

Colten Studley (149), Taige Jones (149) and Otto Davidson (149) all picked up on win on the day for the Jayhawks.

 

JCC will face Pitt.-Bradford next Thursday, November 7th, in their first dual of the year at 7 p.m.
