Jayhawks climb six spots in latest polls

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - In the latest 2019-20 NJCAA Wrestling Rankings, the Jamestown Community College wrestling team has jumped up six spots to No. 13.

The Jayhawks (2-7) have competed in one dual since the previous rankings were released, facing the then No. 9 Niagara County Community College Thunderwolves. Jamestown came up short, falling 27-18. JCC got wins from Joey Perry (Corry, Pa./Corry Area HS), Dan Torres (Cassadaga, N.Y./Cassadaga Valley HS) and Max Wills (Greenville, Pa./Greenville Junior Senior HS).

After their winter break, Jamestown got back to work, traveling to the Waynesburg Invitational held by Waynesburg University. Overall, the Jayhawks finished 12th on the day with Cody Pool (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown HS) finishing fourth in the 125 pound class and Torres finishing first in the 174 pound weight class.

Torres also comes in the latest ranking at No. 1 in the 174 pound class, moving up two spots from his previous position. Torres has gone 5-0 in the past month, picking up a four wins over NCAA Division III opponents.

Torres and the rest of the Jayhawks will travel to Mercyhurst North East this Wednesday for a 6 p.m. start. Jamestown will look to avenge their 35-11 loss to the Saints earlier this season.
