Jamestown Tabbed as Host Institution of Inaugural NJCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – It was announced on Tuesday that the NJCAA has created Division I and Division III in women’s golf following the conclusion of the June NJCAA Board of Regents Meeting with both divisions starting in the 2021-22 academic year. Leading up to this announcement, the NJCAA women's golf was nondivisional across the association with over 80 participating teams.

“The formation of two divisions for our women's golf programs is monumental in supporting female student-athletes and growing the competitive pool of the sport," stated Dr. Christopher Parker, NJCAA President and CEO. "Providing equal opportunity for all our member colleges is the driving force behind all we do."

"I think the formation of the two women's golf divisions will be beneficial to the overall student-athlete experience for all athletes competing at both levels," said Laura Brown, NJCAA Women's Golf Coaches Association President. "Providing more equality during the season and at National Championships will have a very positive impact on the student-athletes, allowing both divisions an opportunity to compete for a National Championship at the appropriate level which is a great direction for women's golf."

With the announcement of the separate divisions of women’s golf, the NJCAA has tabbed Jamestown Community College the host institution of the inaugural NJCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship at Chautauqua Golf Club. Chautauqua Golf Club currently serves as the host sight for the NJCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship since 2000.

“We are extremely grateful to be in a position to accept the opportunity to host the first ever NJCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship,” said Jamestown Community College Athletic Director George Sisson. “In the culture of diversity, equity and inclusion, the NJCAA looked at their structure for women’s golf and I believe we are the perfect solution to having this opportunity. I know that Chautauqua Institution and the golf course will be looking forward to hosting this event along with Jamestown Community College and growing the sport over the next few years.”

Both the men’s and women’s championships will take place on the Lake Course at Chautauqua Golf Club in the spring of 2022.
