Jayhawks eye Erie Community College to start region play

JAMESTOWN - With the nonconference schedule in the rearview, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team now eyes region play, starting first with Erie Community College this Wednesday.

The Jayhawks (7-8) will look to bounce back after falling to SUNY Sullivan County Community College this past weekend, 90-56. Gabby Iuculano led the offense with 17 points while Marisa Schuppenhauer chipped in with 13 points. Linnea Jimerson was a monster on the boards, grabbing nine rebounds (4 offense, 5 defense).

Jamestown averages 66.8 points per contest with Iuculano scoring 15.3 points per game. Schuppenhauer is second on the team in averaging 9.3 points per game. On the defensive side of the ball, the Jayhawks are grabbing 40.8 rebounds a game with Jimerson leading the way with seven rebounds a game. In the paint, Jesse Zenns has rejected 2.7 shots per game.

JCC will face a Kats team with a record of 4-13 on the season, losers of their last three games. In their last game, ECC fell to Monroe College by a score of 58-29.

The Kats are averaging 44 points per game with Caroline Zanghi scoring 14.2 points a contest. Erie has struggled form the floor this season, shooting 30.4 percent while going 21.2 percent from beyond the arc. Erie has also had a hard time at the free throw line, making 44 percent of their attmepts. On the boards, ECC has grabbed 44.5 rebounds per game with Zanghi leading the way with nine rebound per game.

The game will tip at 5:30 p.m. at the Physical Education Complex.
