Jayhawks gearing-up for a weekend road-trip

JAMESTOWN - Riding a two-game win streak, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team will hit the road this weekend for back-to-back games.

The Jayhawks (4-4) are coming off a 71-57 win over Butler County Community College last Wednesday. In the game, Gabby Iuculano dropped a career-high 29 points in the win, including three made three-pointers. Abi Lisciandro and Marisa Schuppenhauer scored in double figures as well, scoring 12 and 10 points respectively. Linnea Jimerson was a monster on the boards, grabbing 14 rebounds (6 offense, 8 defense).

On the year, JCC is averaging 66.5 points per game to go along with 35 rebounds a game. Jamestown is not afraid to make the extra pass, averaging just over 15 assists per game, second in Region III.

JCC will first face a Columbus State Community College team that is 6-3 on the year. Columbus State is coming off a 57-52 win over Cuyahoga Community College, a team that the Jayhawks fell 77-63 earlier in the season. The Cougars are averaging under 70 points a game and averaging just under 45 rebounds a game.

The Cougars are led offensively by Saraysia Nelson with 15.9 points a game while Mickale Bates and Nia Johnson are scoring 12 points a game. Melia Walder and Anjalee Key will hold down the paint for Columbus State, combining for 17 rebounds a game.

Jamestown will have a quick turnaround on Saturday, facing Sinclair Community College. Sinclair is coming off a loss to Tri-C, losing 65-58. The Tartan Pride are scoring 80 points a game and grabbing 45 rebounds. Sinclair also gets their team involved, dishing out 15 assists a game.

The Tartan Pride is led offensively by five players averaging double digits with Dominique Camp leading the way with 19 points a game. Nashala Coffman is close behind, averaging 18.8 points a game. Camp also leads the team in rounds, grabbing 11 per game. Sierra Boyd is close behind, grabbing 10 rebounds a game.

Action starts Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Columbus State at the Delaware Hall Athletic Center. Jamestown will face Sinclair on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Physical Activities Center Gymnasium.
