JAMESTOWN – Looking to sweep the season series, the Jamestown Community College women’s basketball will look to take down Erie Community College.
The Jayhawks (8-12, 1-3 WNYAC) are coming off a 71-52 loss to Genesee Community College this past Wednesday in conference action. Kayla Hold provided 16 points off the bench with Gabby Iuculano adding 14 points. Linnea Jimerson grabbed a team-high nine rebounds (3 offense, 6 defense) with Marisa Schuppenhauer grabbing seven rebounds (5 offense, 2 defense).
Jamestown defeated Erie in their first meeting of the year, coming away with a 72-29 victory. JCC had nine players get in the scoring column with Jimerson leading the way with 15 points. Iuculano and Hohl also scored double digits on the night.
The Jayhawks defense suffocated the Kats offense, causing 42 turnovers and coming away with 21 steals. Abi Lisciandro was in the middle of the action, getting seven steals. Jimerson came away with five steals of her own.
Since conference play started, the Jayhawks are averaging 59.5 points per game while shooting 61.3 percent from the floor. Iuculano and Hohl spearhead the scoring, each scoring in double digits with Jimerson adding 8.5 points per game.
On the boards, the Jayhawks average 39.8 rebounds in conference action with Jimerson and Schuppenhauer leading the way with six rebounds per game.
Jamestown will face an ECC team that has a season record of 4-17 and still searching for their first conference win. The Kats have lost seven-straight, most recently coming against Niagara County Community College, 79-39. Jameelah Gaines led the offensive attack, coming away with 15 points.
The last time they face the Jayhawks, Caroline Zanghi had nine points and grabbed 13 rebounds (2 offense, 11 defense). Nukia Funderburk also had a good game on the glass, coming away with 10 rebounds (1 offense, 9 defense).
In conference action, the Kats are averaging 39.3 points per game while shooting 58.6 percent from the field. Zanghi and Gaines are the main source of offense for ECC, each averaging double digit points per game.
On the boards, the Kats average 47.5 rebounds per game. Zanghi averages 10.3 rebounds per game.
The two team will meet Saturday at 1 p.m.
