Jayhawks fall to GCC on Sophomore Day

JAMESTOWN - The Jamestown Community College women's basketball game fell to Genesee Community College, 88-48 Saturday afternoon on Sophomore Day.

 

The Jayhawks (9-15, 2-6 WNYAC) were led offensively by Gabby Iuculano with 13 points with Jesse Zenna and Linnea Jimerson adding six points each. On the boards, Courtney Hemminger had a team-high six rebounds with Kayla Hohl, Maris Schuppenhauer and Zenns each grabbing five rebounds.

 

The Cougars jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead in the opening minute of the game, gaining the early advantage. Zenns chipped into the deficit, knocking down a pair of free throws to get within one possession. GCC was able to maintain a two-possession lead for the remainder of the quarter. 

 

Jamestown had a tough start to the second quarter, only mustarding up two points in the first five minutes. The Cougars took advantage on the offensive end, outscoring the Jayhawks 23-12 in the second frame and took a 41-26 lead into the break. 

 

GCC created more separation in the third quarter, outscoring JCC 29-11.

 

On the day, the Jayhawks went 17-for-69 (24.6 percent) from the floor and 12-for-16 (75 percent) from the line. The Cougars went 35-for-86 (40.7 percent) from the field while going 10-for-32 (31.3 percent) from beyond the arc.

 

The Cougars held the advantage in second chance points, getting a 23-17 edge over the Jayhawks. GCC also held the advantage in bench points, 22-18.

 

Prior to this afternoon's game, the JCC women's basketball team recognized Kayla Hohl, Jesse Zenns, Izzy Bursch, Abi Lisciandro and Linnea Jimerson for all their efforts they did for the women's basketball team and athletics.

 

The Jayhawks will be home next Wednesday as they host Erie Community College in the Sub Regional at 6 p.m.
