Jayhawks cruise past ECC on the road

BUFFALO - The Jamestown Community College women's basketball team completed the season sweep against Erie Community College, coming away with the 74-42 victory.

 

The Jayhawks (9-12, 2-3 WNYAC) were led on offense by Gabby Iuculano with 20 points, shooting 6-of-8 from the floor. Kayla Hohl made her first start of the season, coming away with 17 points. On the glass, Abi Lisciandro had a team-high seven rebounds (1 offense, 6 defense).

 

The Kats jumped out to an early 9-2 lead in the first quarter, controlling the pace of the game. ECC continue to increase their lead, extending their lead to nine with a Francheska Tejeda layup. Lisciandro cut the deficit to six with a three-pointer as the Kats would take a 15-9 into the second quarter.

 

Jamestown found their offense in the second quarter, scoring 17 unanswered points. Liscinadro and Marisa Schuppenhauer helped fuel the run, scoring five points each. The Jayhawks outscored the Kats in the second quarter, 30-1. Hohl helped guide the offense, scoring 11 points in the quarter. As a team, the Jayhawks went 12-for-17 (70.6 percent) from the floor, including four made three-pointers.

 

The Jayhawks took a commanding 39-16 lead into halftime.

 

On the day, the Jayhawks went 26-for-56 (46.5 percent) from the field while going 9-for-20 (45.0 percent) from beyond the arc. The Kats went 14-for-63 (22.2 percent) from the floor while going 3-for-21 (14.3 percent) from beyond the arc.

 

JCC took advantage of the paint, scoring 30 points with the Kats scoring 14 points in the paint. Jamestown found success in sharing the sugar, coming away with 22 assists.

 

The Jayhawks will be back home next Wednesday as they play No. 12 Niagara County Community College at 5:30 p.m.
