Vikings too much for the Jayhawks on the road

BUFFALO - In their first of three games on the road, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team fell to Villa Maria College, 81-49 Monday evening.

 

The Jayhawks (8-11) were led offensively by Gabby Iuculano with 14 points with Linea Jimerson adding nine points. Marisa Schuppenhauer contributed with eight points, respectively. On the glass, Jimerson and Abi Lisciandro had a team-high seven rebounds each.

 

Jamestown started the game going up 6-3 in the opening minutes, thanks to a three-pointer from Lisciandro and a layup and a free throw from Schuppenhauer. The Vikings settled into their offensive, going on a 14-1 run to close out the first quarter of action.

 

Villa Maria continued to apply the pressure, scoring the first four points of the second quarter. Iuculano stopped the run, knocking down a three-pointer to make it 21-10 in favor of the Vikings. The Jayhawks struggled to find much offense in the second frame, scoring eight points in the frame.

 

On the night, the Jayhawks went 16-for-57 (28.1 percent) from the floor while going 5-for-16 (31.3 percent) from beyond the arc. The Vikings went 33-for-69 (47.8 percent) from the floor while making 7-of-18 (38.9 percent) from three-point land.

 

The Vikings transitioned defense to offense, scoring 22 points off turnovers while Jamestown scored eight points off turnovers. In the paint, Villa Maria held the advantage scoring 42 points to the Jayhawks' 13 points.
