Jayhawks cruise past the Kats in region action

JAMESTOWN – In their first region game of the year, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team cruised past Erie Community College, 72-29 Wednesday evening at the Physical Education Complex.

 

The Jayhawks (8-8, 1-0 WNYAC) were led offensively with 15 points with Gabby Iuculano adding 14 points. Kayla Hohl had a great game coming off the bench, scoring 11 points while grabbing a team-high seven rebounds (3 offense, 4 defense) while adding four assists. Jesse Zenns made her presence known on the defensive end, grabbing six rebounds (1 offense, 5 defense) while rejecting three shot attempts.

 

Jamestown came into the game wanting to control the pace of the game and they did just that. JCC was able to confuse the Kats early and often, forcing 14 turnover in the first quarter. Jamestown was able to transition their defense into offense, opening up the game on a 19-2 run. ECC would make some baskets in the final seconds in the first frame but JCC was in control for the opening tip.

 

The Jayhawks suffocating defense caused 42 turnovers while scoring 42 points off turnovers. Jamestown shot 25-for-72 (34.7 percent) from the field with ECC going 9-for-39 from the floor. JCC also held the advantage in finding their teammate for a score, coming away with 18 assists to the Kats two. ECC did have the advantage on the boards, out rebounding the Jayhawks, 52-37.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Saturday as they travel to No. 14 Niagara County Community College for a tip at 1 p.m.
