JAMESTOWN – After a long winter break, the Jamestown Community College women's basketball team cruised past Butler County, 78-33, to sweep the season series.
The Jayhawks (6-7) had 10 players in the scoring column with Katelyn Fardink scoring a game-high 17 points off the bench. Fardink was hot form beyond the arc, knocking down 50 percent of her shots (5-for-10). Gabby Iuculano scored 15 points with Marisa Schuppenhauer adding 11 points. Schuppenhauer ended her night with a double-double, adding 10 rebounds (8 offense, 2 defense) to her stat line. Jesse Zenns was a force in the paint, blocking four shots.
Jamestown showed no rust from their extended time off, opening up the game on an 11-2 run with Iucualno scoring six and Schuppenhauer scoring five. The Pioneers were able to find their own offense, scoring the games next five points to cut the lead to four. JCC pushed their lead to six at the end of the quarter with Fardink cashing in her first three-pointer of the night to go up 16-7.
JCC got their first double digit lead in the early moments of the second frame with Fardink connecting on her second shot from beyond the arc to put JCC up 21-10. Jamestown took over the game midway through the quarter and found their biggest lead of 21 points as they took a 35-14 lead into the half.
The Jayhawks continued their dominant style of play in the second half, outscoring the Pioneers 43-19 in the second half.
The Jayhawks found success from the free throw line, making 82.6 percent of their attempts (19-for-23) while Butler County only made 31.6 percent of their attempts (6-for-19). JCC show their dominance on the boards, grabbing 60 rebounds to Butler County's 28. Jamestown also took advantage of the Pioneers turnovers, scoring 26 points off of turnovers.
The Jayhawks will be back in action on Friday, January 17th, as they travel to Community College of Beaver County for a 5 p.m. tip.
