JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Community College women's basketball team fell to Cuyahoga Community College, 77-63 Saturday afternoon at the Physical Education Complex.
The Jayhawks (2-4) came out of the gates hot in the first quarter, leading 10-5 at the midway point as Gabby Iuculano drove the lane and converted the layup. Kayla Young cut the deficit to three with a layup but Abi Lisciandro responded with a layup of her own to push the lead back to five. Lisciandro pushed the Jayhawk lead to six as she converted her and-one opportunity, making it 13-7. Jamestown's biggest lead came shortly after as Courtney Hemminger found Kayla Hohl for a three-pointer, making it 16-9. The Triceratops closed out the quarter on a 6-2 run.
JCC maintained their play into the second frame, extending their lead to seven once again with a layup to Iuculano, giving them a 25-18 lead. Tri-C did not go away, scoring the game's next six points. Marisa Schuppenhauer weathered the storm, draining a three-point off the feed from Linnea Jimerson. Cuyahoga responded, closing the game out on a 7-3 run.
In the second half, Tri-C outscored the Jayhawks 46-33.
Iuculano led the offensive attack for the Jayhawks, scoring 16 points and added four assists. Lisciandro added 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Katelyn Fardink added eight points off the bench.
The Triceratops held the slight advantage in rebounds, 37-32. Tri-C established a presence in the paint, outscoring the Jayhawks, 50-22.
The Jayhawks will be off the next eight days before they welcome Lorain County Community College on December 2nd for a 5 p.m. tip.
