ROCKVILLE, Md. – The Jamestown Community College women's basketball team dropped a pair of games this past weekend at the Montgomery College Tip-Off Classic.
The Jayhawks (2-3) fell to Frederick Community College Saturday afternoon, 66-48. The teams played a tight game until the fourth quarter when the Cougars outscored JCC, 23-8. In the first quarter, JCC had the lead from the start with Gabby Iuculano making two free throws. The Jayhawks opened up their lead to 6-2 with Abi Lisciandro driving the lane for back-to-back layups. In between the layups, Lisciandro blocked a shot and grabbed the rebound. Frederick was able to stay within striking distance, trailing by three after one.
The game was neck and neck in the first three quarters where there were six ties and five lead changes. The Cougars had the advantage shooting, making 43.3 percent of their shots (26-for-60) to Jamestown's 28.1 percent (18-for-64). Frederick also took advantage in the paint, outscoring the Jayhawks 46-24.
Courtney Hemminger led the offense for Jamestown, dropping 13 points off the bench. Iuculano and Lisciandro added seven points each. Linnea Jimerson had a team-high seven rebounds with Hemminger grabbing six boards. Frederick had three players score in double-digits, respectively.
On day two of the Montgomery College Tip-Off Classic, JCC fell to host Montgomery, 76-52. The Raptors jumped out to a 19-7 lead in the first quarter, never looking back. The Jayhawks showed fight down the stretch, ending the game on an 11-6 run. During the run, Kayla Hohl and Lisciandro knocked down back-to-back three's for the Jayhawks. Hohl dropped another three while Katelyn Fardnick scored the last five points, including an and-one opportunity.
Iuculano and Lisciandro led the way for JCC, scoring 12 points each. Fardink added eight points off the bench. Jimerson continued to be a presence in the paint, grabbing a team-high eight rebounds (four offense, four defense). Montgomery had four players score in double figures, respectively.
Montgomery had the advantage in shooting percentage, going 30-for-72 from the floor (41.7 percent) with Jamestown shooting 17-for-63 (27.0 percent). The Raptors also controlled the paint, outscoring the Jayhawks 36-16.
The Jayhawks will be back in action this Saturday, November 23rd, as they take on Cuyahoga Community College in their home opener at 1 p.m.
