Jayhawks go undefeated at the WNYAC/MSAC Crossover Classic

CORNING - The Jamestown Community College women's basketball went 2-0 this past weekend at the WNYAC/MSAC Crossover Classic hosted by Corning Community College.

The Jayhawks (2-0, 0-0 WNYAC) defeated SUNY Broome Community College 75-66 in the season-opener on Saturday. JCC had a 19-13 lead after the first quarter and extended that lead to 40-23 going into the half. The Hornets were able to score 29 points in the third but the Jayhawks were able to weather the storm.

Freshman guard Gabby Iuculano had a great collegiate debut, coming away with 22 points. Iuculano was able to get eight of her points at the free throw line. Marisa Schuppenhauer went for 16 points on 8-for-10 from the field while Linnea Jimerson added 11 points. Jimerson had a team-high seven rebounds while three Jayhawks had five apiece. Abi Lisciandro took over the role in calling the offense, coming away with five assists.

In the second game of the season, the Jayhawks defeat the Barons 57-47. Sophomore center Jesse Zenns led the way on offense, scoring 15 points. Schuppenhauer added 13 points. Courtney Hemminger had a strong game off the bench, scoring 11 points and grabbing five rebounds. Jimerson had a team-high six boards. Iuculano and Lisciandro put their teammates in the best position to score, having five and six assists, respectively. Lisciandro had quick hands on the defensive end, coming away with six steals.

The Jayhawks will next be in action on Sunday, November 17th, as they travel to Montgomery College. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
