Jayhawks Last Minute Heartbreaker

The JCC Jayhawks women's basketball team (6-12) went on the road to face the Cougars of Genesee Community College (9-13).  The first period had the Jayhawks fall behind early and were down 8-2 with 5 minutes left to play.  A 3 point shot by #4 Emilee Sperry (Panama) helped the close the gap and the first period came to an end with the Jayhawks down 11-6.  The second period had a 3 point shot by #34 Kaleigh Brunswick (South Dayton) helped the Jayhawks catch up quickly and soon the Jayhawks were only down by 2 points 13-11.  The Jayhawks took the lead 17-15 midway through the period and the two teams them swapped leads before the first half came to an end with the Jayhawks down 24-21. 

The third period had the Jayhawks take the lead and both teams swapped leads and soon the Jayhawks built a 31-28 lead.  A 3 pointer by the Cougars tied the game and the third period came to a close with the Jayhawks in the lead 37-36.  The fourth period had a fast assault of 3 point shots by Brunswick and Sperry to build a 49-38 lead with 7 minutes left to play.  The Cougars began to rally late and with 3 minutes left the Cougars were back in it only down 54-50.  With less than a minute remaining, the Jayhawks held a 58-55 lead but the Cougars would not give up and quickly snatched the lead with 34 seconds left and the Cougars would go on to win 64-59.   

The Jayhawks were led by #22 Jada Jackson (Wellsboro) scored a double double with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 steals; #4 Emilee Sperry (Panama) had a double double of 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 steals; #20 Sydney Wight (Wellsville) had  points and 10 rebounds; #34 Kaleigh Brunswick (South Dayton) had 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 6 assists; #11 Hayden Burgeson (Lakewood) had 4 points; and #33 Brianne Davis (Bemus Point) had 4 steals.
