Jayhawks Offense Flustered By Knights Defense

The JCC Jayhawks women's basketball team (4-) hosted the Knights of Niagara College in the first game of the spring semester.  The first period saw the Jayhawks offense struggle against the Knights full court defense as the Knights pulled away from the Jayhawks for a 16-8 lead.  The Jayhawks began to chip away at the Knights lead with their 3 point shots led by #4 Emilee Sperry (Panama) and #30 Natalie Houle (Sherman) who combined on the day for 7 3-pointers, and when the second period came to a close the Jayhawks were down 13, as the Knights held a 38-25 lead.

The Jayhawks seemed to have gotten their offense adjusted to the Knights defense in the second period and the third period seemed like it would be a close match.  The period seemed close based on scoring as the third period nearly matched the second with the Knights outscoring the Jayhawks 24-17, but the Jayhawks defensive rebounds were quickly turned back over to the Knights and the Knights turned those intercepted passes into points.  The Jayhawks would turn the ball over 31 times on the afternoon.  The forth period saw the Knights dominate the Jayhawks, outscoring them 13 -2 as the Knights downed the Jayhawks 75-44.

The Jayhawks were led by #30 Natalie Houle (Sherman) who scored 14 points (including 4 three-point shots); #4 Emilee Sperry (Panama) recorded a double double consisting of 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 steals; #21 Alexis Hallberg (Bemus Point) had 7 points; #20 Sydney Wight (Wellsville) had 4 points and 3 rebounds; #45 Tayler Morrison (Australia) had 4 points; #11 Hayden Burgeson (Lakewood) had 6 rebounds;  #34 Kaleigh Brunswick (South Dayton) had 5 assists and 3 rebounds; and #33 Brianne Davis (Bemus Point) had 4 assists and 3 rebounds.
