Jayhawks Use The Long Ball To Down The Lakers

The JCC Jayhawks women's basketball team (2-3) hosted the Lakers of Lakeland Community College (2-3).  Both teams played aggressive, physical basketball with the Lakers jumping out to an early 11-5 lead.  The Jayhawks fought their way back, ending the first period of play down 17-13.  The second period saw the Lakers pull out to a 22-13 lead before the Jayhawks started firing 3 point shots, taking back large chunks of the Lakers lead in the process.  The Jayhawks tied the game 27-27 with 1:33 left in the period and the half ended with the Lakers ahead 32-27.  The third period saw the Jayhawks come out strong and took the lead early.  The two teams went back and forth with the lead for the entire period with the Jayhawks taking the lead with 6 seconds to play 49-47.  The 4th period saw both teams scrapping it out with tough defense, and the lead changed hands several times and with 3:47 left to play, the Lakers had a 59-56 advantage.  The Jayhawks then cut the lead to 59-58, and two clutch shots by #22 Jada Jackson (Wellsboro) gave the Jayhawks 62-59 advantage and the Jayhawks would go on to win a wild one over the Lakers 64-61.

The Jayhawks were led by #4 Emilee Sperry (Panama) who had 17 points (including shooting five 3-point shots), 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals; #24 Kelly Keefe (Jamestown) had 16 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists; #22 Jada Jackson (Wellsboro) had 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists; #20 Sydney Wight (Wellsville) had 8 points and 3 rebounds; #34 Kaleigh Brunswick (South Dayton) had 6 points and 3 steals; #11 Hayden Burgeson (Lakewood) had 4 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists; #30 Natalie Houle (Sherman) had 3 points; #33 Brianne Davis (Bemus Point) had 7 rebounds and 4 assists; and #21 Alexis Hallberg (Bemus Point) had 3 rebounds and 3 assists.
