Jayhawks lose early lead but play down to the wire

The JCC Jayhawks women's basketball team (0-2) had their first home game of the season as they hosted the Red Barons of Corning Community College (2-0).  The Jayhawks started out hot and took a 14-11 lead at the end of the first period.   The second period had the Jayhawks offense continue to gain momentum as with 7:14 left in the half, they took a commanding 22-13 lead.  But then the Red Barons went on the offensive and closed the gap significantly with the Jayhawks clinging to a 2 point lead (26-24) at the end of the half. 

 

The third period had the teams going back and forth but the Jayhawks surrendered the lead with 6:08 left in the period as they Red Barons took a 31-30 lead and would lead at the end of 3 periods of play 41-39.  The Red Barons pulled away in the 4th period but the Jayhawks refused to go quietly, overcame a 10 point deficit, and with :18 left to play the Jayhawks reduced the lead to 57-54.  However, time would run out on the Jayhawks as they Red Barons downed them 58-54.  The Jayhawks were led by #11 Hayden Burgeson (Lakewood) who had crucial 3 pointers to keep the Jayhawks close while scoring 10 points and 4 rebounds; #4 Emilee Sperry (Panama) had 10 points and 4 rebounds; #22 Jada Jackson (Wellsboro) had 8 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 steals; #30 Natalie Houle 's (Sherman) had 7 points and 3 rebounds; #20 Sydney Wight (Wellsville) had 6 points and 3 rebounds; #24 Kelly Keefe (Jamestown) had 6 points; and #33 Brianne Davis ' (Bemus Point) had 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists.
