Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving Regional Meet Cancelled

JAMESTOWN – This weekend's NJCAA Region 3 Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships have been cancelled due to COVID-19 protocols with in the Erie Community College and Genesee Community College programs.

 

Jamestown Community College have been named the NJCAA Region 3 Champions for both the men's and women's after each team going a perfect 4-0 in the Western New York Athletic Conference this season. The Cougars will be named runner ups for the women while the Kats will be named the runner ups for the men.

 

The Jayhawks have seen great success in the pool thus far this season after a three-year hiatus. Sophomore Karianne Yuchnitz (Panama, NY/Panama Central) has been outstanding in the pool, setting new records in the 50 yard freestyle (24.80) and 100 yard freestyle (55.38) on three different occasions this season.

 

Freshman Tia Moppert (Gowanda, NY/Gowanda Central) has set a new mark in the 100 yard butterfly (1:08.35) with freshman Jade Vidas (Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa/Parktown HS for Girls) setting the record I the 100 yard IM (1:10.65).

 

The team of Yuchnitz, Moppert, Anna Burt (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS), and Lillian Baer (Jamestown, NY/Maple Grove HS) have also had their shine in the pool, setting the new mark in the 400 yard medley relay with 4:44.77.

 

On the men's side, freshman Matthew Fennell (Fourways Garden, Johannesburg, South Africa/King Edwards VII School) has set a new time in the 100 yard IM with a time of 1:10.02. Fennell broke the previous time of 1:10.68 set by teammate Eathan Johnson (Panama, NY/Panama Central).

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action on Wednesday, April 28th, as they travel to Indian Rivers College to compete in the 2021 NJCAA Swimming & Diving Championships.
